Over three years, Gavin co-authored the third- and fourth-year textbooks and revised the first- and second-year volumes of the Challenge to Speak English-speaking series. Published by Higher Education Press, China’s top academic publisher under the Ministry of Education, the series was designated a Nationally Planned Textbook for the 11th Five-Year Education Plan, encouraging adoption across universities and higher education institutions throughout China.

It is extremely rare, if not unique, for a foreign educator to achieve first-author status on a nationally planned Higher Education Press textbook, reflecting exceptional professional recognition and cross-cultural impact.
